dexron III and later type fluid.

We recommend MOBIL 1 ATF, redline ATF, AMSOIL ATF as first choices.

Another good one but a lot cheaper, cuz its only a blend is Valvoline SYnPower ATF.

Fred...:)

PS: Do a NICO search about transmission coolers too:thumbup

at the risk of being too nitpicky, Valvoline's pure synthetic line is "SynPower" and their blends fall under "DuraBlend".

There's no ATF under the Synpower label, just Durablend.

Like I said, nitpicky, but it may help avoid any confusion when looking for stuff at the store.

thanks shag, i was about to say the same thing. In my searches for good ATF and after checking Valvoline's product line up, I noticed there was no ATF under the Synpower group. Matter of fact I thought their ATf selection was slim.

Ted, make sure what ever ATF you get it's Dexron III.

Just as info I just paid $5.99 per quart of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF!! I bought 12 quarts, I think my transmission only needs 11 qrts but I'm putting in the Oops factor.

They must have recently changed the naming.I remember for certain that they listed their ATF as "synPower" and how that had caused confusion cuz it was a blend.

Dexron III is a generic specification [a series of tests the product must pass] the current version should be labeled Meets Dexron III G .......... not B, not C, not D, not E [very common old version made with cheap [non hydrogenated] base stock oil.

Generally the additives are added to cheap or expensive base stocks which determine the product life.........many products can meet the test initially but not after 100 hours of use which was the test period until the never Dexron III H comes out in Spring!

Thanks Q45tech! I'm sure Fred has got even more info that he's always so willing to give. :D I was unaware of the different classes relating to when they were introduced. Are these G...B,C and D groups labeled on the bottles?

thanks Chris,

I guess they changed to call it durablend, cuz it was more accurate, which is a good honest move from this oil company.

How else do SOME discount auto stores sell at a discount they can buy up vast quanties of old product, obsolete product, and things that are iffy.

Unfortunately many labels don't go into detail....."meets dexron spec" so what ........do they meet current spec.

Even Mobil 1 Syn ATF just purchased says " meets Dexron III can be used where Dexron IIe is approved".........too expensive to change label!?
