I don't have any experience myself, but I heard the 5 speed is better for drift. Apparently the 6 speed likes to break. Some people that have the 6 speed in, swap it out for the 5 speed.

What engine are you using?

Personally there is only 1 choice unless you want to spend 11 grand on a transmission by HKS. get the 5 speed from another 240. that really is your only option without taking out a loan. the 6 sped requires alot more fab work and is weaker.

5 speed it rated for 400hp s

dont some people upgrade to the z32 or skyline transmission. It requires changing shafts and bellhousings. I dont know if it really holds more power though, Id imagin it does. but the KA and SR transmission are both ready=ily available.

the 6sp transmission does get bad reviews from drifters

The 6spd transmission is perfectly fine up to about 250-280 lb/ft of torque. For people running very high-powered applications thusly....not so much.

It's "weaker" because it packs 6 gears inside the same size case instead of 5, and thus they're a little thinner.

Personally, I'd like to have one just to allow highway cruising at lower rpms, but I also don't do any drifting.

Does the S15 six drop RPMs to a decent amount at cruising speed (80 - 95mph) or does it just close in the ratio for quicker acceleration?

I do mostly highway driving and it's annoying to be sitting at 4K all the time.

Thanks,K

So does this mean that the bell housing bolts will line up between KA and SR or anotherwords 5speed Ka and 6-speed S15 with same starter placement, and what about the driveshaft, do they need to be swapped when doing the conversion.

the 5spd ka and sr trannys will need the bellhousings switched.

the 6 speed you'll need other stuff than just a starter to get that goin. you'll need the rear end as well as the speed sensor is located there if you're gonna go 6 speed.

The six speed ironically is geared lower than the five speed. But you need the rear end and as long as you keep the final gear from the s15 it evens out otherwise you'll be running higher rpms in 6th that your stock transmission in 5th. Pointless IMO
