I've never driven a car that let you shift the auto trans without your foot on the brake.ozzie! wrote:Mine won't shift out of park unless I have my foot on the brake...Safety feature I am guessing.....
What switch are you referring to?blurama wrote:I finally had this fixed on a 94. It was nothing more than a switch by the brake pedal.
Well I guess the saftey features are pretty lax here in OZ.The first auto car i have ever needed to have my foot on the brake before shifting out of park is the infiniti.MinisterofDOOM wrote:

You must be a young guy. Back in the 80's, there was sudden acceleration problems with the Audi 5000. I assume it was more like driver error. This almost killed Audi. After this, Auto cars were being made with a lock in the auto that require you to press the brake. My first car was a 79 Impala and I could shift without the brake. I can see the importance of having this feature, but I liked it without it.MinisterofDOOM wrote:

Yes it is, since the 70's.ozzie! wrote:Mine won't shift out of park unless I have my foot on the brake...Safety feature I am guessing.....
Cause you're too young .They even used to have manaul transmission cars, that you could start without pressing in the clutch.MinisterofDOOM wrote:I've never driven a car that let you shift the auto trans without your foot on the brake.
Until someone who's had this problem finds you car sitting somewhere. I even know a couple girls that knwo about the hidden switches in some lesser cars.elwesso wrote:My Q does the same thing...
