My transmission won't shift from Park unless I push the Shift Lock button on the center console at the same time. Then I can shift through all the gears with no problems and back up to Park, but I will have to push the Shift Lock button again if I want to shift out of Park each and every time. Has anyone ever experienced this problem before? The car was just working fine and this happened out of the blue.

I found this:

Service Bulletin Number: FC0004937Date of Bulletin: 9102Component: POWER TRAIN: TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATICSummary: SHIFT LEVER COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM PARK POSITION UNLESS THE MANUAL OVERRIDE I S ACTIVATED-RESOLVED BY REPLACING THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID-INFINITI CE

I found it at the following address:

http://www.infinitihelp.com/In...1.htm

Is anyone aware of this or have any more details regarding this particular issue?

Mine does the same thing, kind of annoying but I don't think it hurts anything.

I finally had this fixed on a 94. It was nothing more than a switch by the brake pedal.

Check to make sure your brake lights are working... mine did this when the brake switch was bad. Didn't show a warning on the dash either!

I've never driven a car that let you shift the auto trans without your foot on the brake.

The Switch number > 25320-75A00

From the dealer it was $44.87

Well I guess the saftey features are pretty lax here in OZ.The first auto car i have ever needed to have my foot on the brake before shifting out of park is the infiniti.

All other cars here shift without your foot on the brake.

So, every auto I have ever driven, (except the infiniti ) has shifted from park without touching the brake.

You must be a young guy. Back in the 80's, there was sudden acceleration problems with the Audi 5000. I assume it was more like driver error. This almost killed Audi. After this, Auto cars were being made with a lock in the auto that require you to press the brake. My first car was a 79 Impala and I could shift without the brake. I can see the importance of having this feature, but I liked it without it.

Yes it is, since the 70's.

Cause you're too young .They even used to have manaul transmission cars, that you could start without pressing in the clutch.

Until someone who's had this problem finds you car sitting somewhere. I even know a couple girls that knwo about the hidden switches in some lesser cars.
