I know their is alot of transmission discussion on here, but you'll have to forgive me as I can't seem to find the search function on the mobile website.

Anyway, our 17 rogue seems to stay around 3000 rpm's for a very long time while driving. Alot longer than it should in my opinion. I know this can be from the engine not being fully warmed up, but this is even after it is fully warmed and you've been driving for a while. Even if you take your foot off the gas, it just sits around 3000 rpm's. Eventually it will go down , but it just doesn't seem right to me. Almost like its avoiding downshifting the last 3 gears

The Rogue transmission doesn't have gears. You're still under full factory warranty. Have it checked by the dealership if you think something's wrong with it.

Since you have the 17 model, you have the option to go into manual mode from the gear selector to override the transmission. Manual mode is below the D option (not sure as the 2016 model has L instead of manual mode), but after you pull it down below D, shift it to the left, and I think shifting the gear selector up is upshift (not sure again as the 16 model doesn't have it). If the issue still persists, then go to the dealer. If dealer says thats normal, contact Nissan USA or Nissan Canada (depending on your location).

That is one of the things I do not like about the CVT transmissions. When our 11 is cold the rpms stay around 3k for a while, now it’s not an extremely long time maybe a couple miles at best. Then the rpms gradually drop into the normal range, 2k or so.

The CVT doesn’t actually shift in the traditional sense. There is not a set number of gears, like Chrysler’s 9 speed auto, or VW’s 8 speed where the transmission is always hunting for the correct gear according to the cars computer. My understanding of the internals of the CVT is a big thick belt on a cone. The belt slides up and down the cone, hence the continuously variable part. Maybe some one who has had one apart can speak with more authority on this.

The cars computer controls the shifting and rpm’s of the engine and transmission, perhaps you just need to get the dealer to tweak the programming more to your liking.

To the OP, make sure the button on the side of the transmission shifter is pushed such that the yellow light is off on the dash (simplistic explanation I know). It sounds like your overdrive mode is turned off. I have used it to better engine brake going downhill in the mountains to good effect. It will certainly keep your engine RPMs up if have it's disengaged. If that is not the issue, for sure take it to the dealer to be looked at ASAP.

The 17 has a different gear selector than our 14-16 Rogues, as I am aware of right now. So that means there isn't an overdrive button on the side of the gear selector as you would have expected it to be on. Instead, Nissan gave the 17s and 18s the Sport mode or more known as the semi-auto/manual mode. It would have been nice for Nissan to give the 17s and 18s the same gear selector as the 14-16 MY Rogues, but they decided not to. :inout: :gotme
