Our Subject:

1993 Q45 std.182,000 miles. (I have owned since 177,000 miles)transmission flushed last year approx. 5000 miles ago.transmission pan drop w/ screen and fluid change approx. 1000 miles ago.No aux transmission cooler (I am in NW lower Michigan with summer high temp of 80 deg.)transmission fluid at pan drop was nice color and screen was clean.transmission fluid at this drop was slightly burnt and dark red with some very fine grey material in bottom (2-3 table spoons worth)

Symptoms:

1 to 2 shifts fine will not shift to 3 (as far as I can tell...RPM stay same)when in D will not shift to 3 or 4 from 2

transmission up until this point has been good, with nice shifts and no slipping.

Self diagnostic initially gave me code of 3 (throttle position sensor circut). However, I checked connector, cleaned and lubed connector and error went away.

Is she terminal? Should I try another flush? Do I just need to start shopping for a new (used) transmission as I can not afford a factory rebuilt at this time.

Thanks for your input,

Andy

While I have been on this board for sometime, I am far from an expert. However, if I got the service you did from your transmission, I would get a rebuilt. It's bordering on a record for service from a first Gen.

Too bad I wasn't the one to benefit from 95% of its life... :D Guess that's par for the course I seem to be exiled to. :(

Drive it and save for a factory rebuilt. It is not worth doing the labor twice in a short period of time.

Sure you benefited by not paying the $45,000 MSRP and losing $35,000+ in depreciation plus not paying $17-20,000 in repairs and maintenance prior to your getting the car.

Please take the Q to an expert to list all the other surprises you may have in store.

Look for a blown engine [chain guides ] 90-93 to buy for $750-$1,000 with a recent transmission replacement.

I just did this ... http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....59638 ... you can not beat the service or price from Rick ... I was able to get a reman transmission installed by Infiniti for $2,800 ... 2000 transmission + shipping and 800 labor.

you'll spend two grand getting a used one installed .... though frankly at 182k and no known history, I doubt I would drop that into her.

buy another and keep her for parts would probably be the best use of the car imho.
