Transmission Whistle?

ok, it wasnt what i thought it was at all, man, "mechanics" really piss me off sometimes... it is my exhaust... and it has a leak, the leak actually sounds like a turbo spooling up when it accelerates, but im just not rice enough to leave it like that for that reason, thanx for the help guys----------------------------------------------------

Alright guys, this is my First Thread (except for the newbie one) and I need some help with a problem i keep hearing is "common" among 240SXs I have a '93 240SX SE auto KA24DE DOHC

It seems that when i accelerate over roughly 3500 RPM I start to get a whistling sound.

I took it to my mechanic, (b/c i dont do trannies) and he said that it was a common problem and as long as the car is changing gears (and it is) then to not worry about it.

But it is a VERY irritating sound when I am driving "enthusiastically" drop me a line, IM me, or PM me. I NEED to know what in the world is going on.

Im tired of people saying its a "common" problem, when i cant find a fix or documentation of it anywhere.... **FIXED

Hmmm im not aware of any common transmission whistling problems. I tried to check 240sx.org under FAQs but it wasnt there. Usually they have some kind of info on common problems.

Ill keep lookout and do a few more searches for ya but I dont see it being as common as they may have lead you to believe

Sounds like the throwout bearing (TOB) whining...it's a relatively common problem with any TOB that has a lot of miles on it.

To replace, you have to pull the trans.

he said it made the noise when he is excellerating. TOB should only make a noise if he pushes in the clutch. the only common problem that ive heard of like that after that many rpm is the annoying damn belt squeel. are you sure its coming from the clutch?
