transmission whinning...

my transmission in my s13 started whinning when backing up in reverse the other day...It doesnt do it when the clutch is in, only when backing up under load...never heard another s13 do this...thanks for any suggestions...

It could possibly be the pilot bushing or throw-out bearing? Either one of those two could be loose, vibrate ugly and cause a whining noise. imo. Check it out.Wouldn't hurt to replace.

If it only does it when the clutch is engaged then it sounds like a throw out bearing.

Im gonna build the transmission soon, I wonder how ling Ive got left before it goes out...I wannaa do transmission, clutch/flywheels and everything at once...sux the balls

That whinning is completely normal. Every car with a manual trans will make that sound. The reverse gear is a straight cut gear not helical like the forward gears. So it will whine.

Mine does it too, I have new clutch,throw out bearing, pilot bearing and i've swapped in another transmission. Still does it, I think it might be coming from the rear end....who knows
