so about a week ago ive noticed a whinning noise coming from my 93 j30 110k. last night driving home doing about 20 i steped on the gas but it did not go it just reved up the rpms. so i pull over and park then put it back in drive same thing reves up but does not go. this morning i go to pick the car up jump in drive of like nothing hapend the night before.after about a mile same thing step on the gas but it dosnt go so i pull over again and check the transmission codes everything seems fine.oh and when i checked the oil it was way high witch puzzles me bc i have not changed the oil in 2 to 3 years.

so has this happend to any of you guys????? im just hoping the transmissions not shot

and i was about to sell the car the next day to fund my trip to europe, but i guess its a good thing that it broke down on me and not the person that was going to but it.

Is the transmission oil high?

Drain it immediatly!!! Transmission fluid should only be at level, not above or below.

Have you put any sort of transmission conditioner in it?

Can you feel heat from the transmission tunnel in the interior when the car is fully warm?

If the transmission fluid is high and your driving around with it, you can "cook" the transmission.

You may have damaged it already.

Just throwing out a thought. If the "In rad" cooler is clogged would it cause more fluid in the pan ??A starved transmission will cook with a quickness.Starved as in blockage within the system.

transmission needs to come apart.....or be replaced along with the radiator.

If you didn't burn up most of the internal components by driving it long distances in a toasted state and circulating chunks of it through the oiling system, you might find that only a couple of components need replacement but your symptoms tell me there is debris in the pan.

What you have going on is debris in the pan that gets sucked up onto the filter and blocks fluid which lowers pressure to the point of you getting no drive in a short distance.

When you drop the pan, you will find a small mountain of clutch chunks directly under the filter pick up hole.

Sadly....that transmission usually fails more than just the clutches like my 3n71b did a few weeks ago.

On mine, I just ordered 80 bucks worth of frictions and a modulator while performing valve body mods to handle higher hp and I'm back on the road.

These were what failed in mine but your transmission type usually dies from a restriction in the cooler system and ends up with a lot more damage.

You have to be very selective about which car it comes out of since a failed transmission is what lands most J30s into the salvage yard most of the time.

If you can find a car that got hit, then it's a safe bet that it drove to the accident that did it in.

I'll be at three different u-pull yards this weekend and will see if any J30s there fit the description above.

16 years is very very old in a Nissan transmission's life!We normally see failure about 10-12 years at normal annual mileage [12k].

110k is very low annual mileage [6800 per year]. I surely would have expected it to ROT by now.

Junk yard trannies are iffy especially finding one with low mileage NOW.

If you can order JDM junk yard imports they might be the same age but lower mileage.

I'm on transmission number 3 [which already has 100k on it] in my 1990 Q but I always use Nissan Factory Remmaned unit .........$3500 installed.

Any 1990 or newer RE4R01A will fit in J30.
