2001 Nissan Maxima. This has happened twice in the last week. After driving for about an hour in hot weather, the transmission "slips" while in drive. RPM's will go up and car will not advance. If i put the car in low gear, it will drive. But, in "D", it won't go - the engine just races. When cooled down, the car drives normally in "D". 149K miles. Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to NICO!

What is the level (w/ engine running and warm) and color of the transmission fluid? Have you done a flush before? If not, no decent shop will do it with your mileage. It would be better to do a pan drop, clean the pan and magnets and replace filter as needed and then do multiple drain and refill.

Thank You...level is OK when checked w/ engine running & warm. color a little darker than norm. Had it flushed with new filter about 3 yrs ago. Also had a sensor changed . At the time, it would "bang" into gear shortly after starting from a stop. Changing a sensor cured this. Is there more than 1 sensor on this transmission, and could that be the problem ???
