transmission/transfer case issue

While driving the truck down shifted and would not go into reverse. This was after replacing the trani with one from nissan. My question is if the transfer case goes bad does it damage the transmission and what will cause it to drive but not go in reverse..

Also when it's put in neutral it will role forward but not back it's almost like it in gear.. could it be the tcm if so are they plug and play or will it need to be programmed

Yup. Been in for a week... The crazy thing is it did the same thing it did the first time. But now when you put it in neutral it's like it's still in gear.. im lost.
