The J30 Transmission is a very delicate piece of machinery. They are said by T3 to break down more often than the Q45 transmissions. The concept for maintaining your transmission is the same however. There are three recommendations to extending transmission life on the J30:

1. Get your transmission flushed at least once a year. This is not simply a pan drop and refill. This flushes the entire system. A flush will clean out the transmission whereas a pan drop and refill will not. Sludge buildup can cause an early breakdown. When you get it flushed, have the pan dropped and the filter removed as well. Then replace after the flush.

2. When you flush your transmission, replace with MOBIL 1 ATF. This is considered by members here to be the best choice for transmission fluids. Your car will shift smoother and will not slip as much when using this fluid.

3. Install an after-market transmission cooler. The most popular brands are B&M and Hayden. The cooler in the radiator is really only meant to heat up the fluid in freezing temperatures in the winter but will not cool your transmission during the hot summers. This will definitely add to the life of your tranmission as heat is the number one transmission killer, not wear.
