No overdrive Button in the Q. Might have a problem. The experts will soon chime in.

With the questions above , answer this for me also. When is the last time u got an tune up period? You could be jumping time. Dont drive it too much and dont force it to go over. Also how is it switching gears when u take off? is it sawitching smooth and on the right spot, or is it switrching rough or taking too long to switch gears. All that matters as well.

Well, there is a OD lockout button on the FY33.

The others are gated.

Failure to shift into 4th at highway speeds (& RPMs) is a tell tale sign of a dying transmission. May try a fluid exchange or (real) flush, with pan drop and filter change, but any benefit would, most likely, be short lived.

transmission replacements are expensive, need to think long and hard about how many more miles you plan on driving this Q, and what else may need to be addressed in the coming year/2 years. Have the timing guides been "done"?

Up shift failures may be casued by a stuck spring or clog in the valve body. Ask around your city for the most reputable trans shop and have them give you an estimate.

But first I would get a power flush and see what happens...which will be one of three things;1) no change2) it gets worse (which it would anyway)3) it fixes it.

My transmission would not shift out of 2nd gear. I pretty sure it's shot. So I went and picked one up from a local yard, dropped the pan and it looks brand new in there, fluid was good. New gasket and filter are on the way from joe at everything infiniti. I pulled the old one out of the car tonight and let me tell you guys if you have never done it, you are in for a real treat. I had to use every extension and swivel head socket ever made to reach some of those bolts. I think I'm going to do a write-up.

3 foot extensions for the top bolts. Many are never reinstalled.

An article would be most welcome, especially if you didn't use a lift (Oh, the agony!)

3rd gear is 480 rpms per 10 mph............70 would be 3360 rpms2nd gear is 740 rpms per 10 mph........... 70 would be 5180 rpms

4,000 does not compute.

You need to start with the basics.

First, have you checked the fluid level as shown the manual? It has to be done on a level surface with the engine running.

Second, what condition is the fluid in? Have you changed it recently?

I HAVEN'T CHANGED THE TRANS FLUID SINCE I HAD THE CAR. I CHECKED THE FLUID AND IT LOOKS DARK BROWN AND BURNT. DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GET A COMPLETE transmission FLUSH?

my 95Q with 150K miles just started this as well about a month ago.

Every once in a while it will shift into dirve, but than immediately downshifts into 3rd. However I had 5 people in my car on the freeway the other day, and I manually put the car in second and stomped on it....anyway, now it shifs into drive and stays. Weird....perhaps the transmission just needs a tune up. Or something was stuck, and my hard shift cleared it out. BTW, Mobil 1 flush with pan drop / filter change every 30K. Funny I have exactly 30K on the current fluid...maybe I just need a flush.

How does it look, smell, and taste [ugh or ummy] [kidding]............the drop from the dip stick vs the drop of brand new [side by side] is usually all it takes to see the reduced saturation of the dye color from heat breakdown.

As we all know synthetic ATF just prolongs the inevitable failure by some amount of time.............always put that $300-$400 per year away for transmission replacement.
