I don't know if i need a new transmission. i think the noise that i'm hearing from it is the release bearing. when i start to move forward in 1st gear the trans occasionally makes this sloud screeching noise as i let up the clutch pedal. not shifting or anything, just letting up the clutch. by the way it's an ACT clutch with a 6 puck disk. ya think that's the release bearing? it's definitely related to the clutch assembly because once the clutch is entirely engaged it stops making the noise right away. so here is a question for ya... i just found an sr transmission/bellhousing that can be bought for 315$. it's only got 31k on it and compared to others i've seen this seems like a good price. should i pick up the transmission or should i just assume that the problem is the release bearing and replace that... i'd rather not tear the trans out 2X!!! thanks

a bad throwout bearing makes a noise when you engage the clutch not disengage. its possible that the noise are your bearings

I had the same problem happen to me. When you have the transmission apart pull the release bearing and make sure it spins freely. Mine was seized and would not move. That will tell u if it is the release bearing. I doubt it is your transmission by the way it sounds. Mine made a whirring sound and was hard to engage gears. Good Luck!

oh yeah i should mention that the trans shifts fine. it's smooth as silk except for the 4th to 5th syncro grinds a tiny bit at high speed...

If you have your transmission apart you should replace that anyways. It is a 40 dollar part that is usually the suspect problem. And you know how much of a pain it would be to replace it if it went bad. I had replaced mine about a year ago because it was the problem, well 3 weeks ago I obliterated my clutch to the point of no clutch material on the clutch (looked like a squirrel had gotten in my transmission and built a nest). So now my flywheel and pressure plate were scored from the metal of the clutch. So now I ordered a whole new clutch kit because I want to replace everything now while I have it apart. Cheers.

I had the same noise coming out of my old GS-R with a ACT 6puck, I ended up puling out my trani and changing the t/o bering and nothing changed, I still had the same weird bird squick/chirp sounds.. then some dude at AUTOLINK told me it was because the ACT 6 puck I had did not have the built in springs that most of the clutch's come with...I figured he was right and kept on squiking at every stop sign happily ever after.....

yeah this whole thing is really weird. it CAN'T be the clutch/pressure plate cause this thing still grabs soooo hard. it'll smoke the tires through 3rd and i've had it to 120 in 4th gear and the clutch holds all the power i throw at it. well, i just bought another transmission so this coming weekend i'm going to swap everything.... i'm NOT looking forward to this.

weird. mine does the same thing. i always thought it could be my pilot bushing. either that or a piece of metal is rubbing from the clutch fork. i've drifted in several events and transmission/clutch still feels great so im just not gonna worry about it. haha

Has anyone called ACT and asked them about chirping sounds from their six-puck clutch discs?I would not replace the transmission, I bet it is the 6-puck disc making noise....and it may not be a bad moise, just a normal operation noise.
