i bought my car knowing it har transmission trouble. the guy i bought it from even threw in a transmission from a 98 240 (mine is a 96). the trans in my car now is really hard to shift into 1st gear. it has a whinning sound, and at RPMs above about 2000 it grinds when i shift into 3rd and 4th.

i just need a write-up on how to replace my trans myself. also if anyone knows what else i should do while im replacing the transmission i would like to know.

i have searches the forums and i cant find what im looking for.

i appreciate all of your time, thanks.

It's really not that hard to do at all. Remove shifter, dissconnect all wiring harnesses, remove bolts from driveshaft at the rear end, remove ALL bell housing bolts (tricky one dead center of bellhousing, remove 4 bolts from torque converter and flywheel, remove trans crossmember (make sure to have jack under trans,) and remove the starter. It alittle out of order but I think that is it.Oh yea don't forget to remove the trans lines going into the radiator.

thanks for the reply, this gives me somewhere to start. unfortunatly, i live on a naval base and i dont have a garage do to the work in, i hate that.

i might have to pay someone to do this job i know i could do myself, i really need to get my own garage.

does anyone have any more suggestions for me? thanks...
