I have a '91 M-30. Had a problem with the tranmission shifting late (in 1st) and "lugging" in downshift. Took to transmission center and had the tranmission rebuilt ($3m).The rebuilt seemed to help with all except when coming to a stop, the transmission causes the engine to lug or shake just before you stop. The transmission center put their computer on it and indicated that all was fine on excelleration but, when coming to a stop it down shifted from 4th to 3rd and when you got to 7 or 8 MPH it would shake and then shift to 1st skipping second gear all together. It upshifts fine on excelleration but just won't downshift in to 2nd when stopping. We put a new TCU unit in and it made no difference. We even replace the speedo head (electronic) and still no difference. Does anybody have any ideas as to how to correct this problem? Thanks.

It sounds like some trash got into the valve body and has settled in a shuttle valve. All it takes is a near invisible thread.
