Transmission swap

Hey all! I'm looking to do a transmission swap to a 1991 Nissan 240sx from auto to manual. I have several question so bare with me


1.Can I use any 5 speed transmission for my swap or does it need to be from another s13 or s14?

2.How much does the 5 speed transmission cost?

3.How much would it cost me to do this all by myself? (I will have helpers by the way)

4.How long does this usually take?

5.I heard its not worth doing because It cost more to do than what I paid for the car, is this true? (Got mines for 100$)

Prices vary.

Any 89-98 5 speed transmission from a 240sx will work. You would need the 91-93 MT speed sensor for your speedometer to work correctly though.

Used transmission will be $50-$200, just depends on who is selling.

If you get everything for really cheap, probaly looking at $150-200 at bare minimum for everything. Goes up if you buy any aftermarket/upgraded stuff (especially shifters, clutches, flywheels, etc).

Can be done in a weekend if you have everything and don't run into any issues.

It will definately costs you more than the $100 than you paid for the car.

I have another question, someone is selling a s13 sr20 transmission does that mean I need a sr20det engine to use that tranmission?

yes, an sr20 transmission and a ca18 transmission will ONLY fit the engines they are made for because the bellhousing is shaped differently then the ka24 engines. you MUST use a transmission from another KA24 engine....

Yes, any 89-98 240sx manual transmission will work on a KA24E.
