Since i'm going to replace the clutch in my 240z, i'm also going to swap out the 4 speed for a 5 speed. Has anyone used the 5 speed out of an 240sx? If so, what did you have to do? What year 280z 5 speed is best for a daily driver/weekend racer? Thanks.

I did the SX swap and alter swaped it out in favor of the stronger T5, to do the sx swap you need a front case form a 4 speed and the rest form the sx, you then enlarge one countershaft hole, clearance the inside of the front case and swap pver the countershaft bearing, then you need a custome drive shaft

the easiest swap is a 79-83 280zx n/a 5 speed, it's pretty much plug and play, the T5 is harderto come by but it a lto stronger if you itend to make a lot of power, but unless you add forced induction the n/a 5 speed should be fine

To add to evildky's post, using the T5 you'll need to notch your center console a little bit as the shifter is closer to the front slightly. Shifting into 1,3 and 5 will make it hit the center console. When I had the T5 I had to reach out a little to shift. Instead of notching my center console, I just removed it cause I didn't want to cut anything (mainly cause I was lazy)

depends on the chassis, the T5 is a perfect fit in a series 1 chassis

You could also invest in a short shift for the T5. A steada tri-ax specifically works great if you are having problems with throw.
