So its possible to just take the auto trans, and torque conv. out and replace it with a flywheel, clutch and manual trans? there are no other big modifications (except changing the pedals and adding the master and slave cylinders)?

depends on what your able to do. The swap isn't hard you could pick up most of the esential from a junk yark like U wrench it. ball park figures junk yard and doing it your self 500 dollars haveing a shop do it I've heard every thing from 1200 to 3000. so its up to you

There is a simple wire splicing that you have to do and you would have to start the car in neutral, but that is all. Oh and you need the manual driveshaft and transmission mount if you didn't know that already. I got all the stuff for 300 and picking up transmission for 80.

The auto went out of mine last week...

..and I have never been happier. I found a remanufactured manual transmission for $300, and got everything else for $200 more. I did buy a new clutch kit, lightweight flywheel, and clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder, but the price was under $600 for everything.

Where did you find the flywheel so cheap?

The flywheel is out of my friend's wrecked '92, so I lied...the flywheel isn't new, lol. It was only in there for about 2 months though, then he wrecked it and it's been sitting for about a year.

Its a Fidanza...and new they are like $250 so I jumped on the used one.

I have a 89 ka24e coupe with 112 miles...

I am getting my transmission checked out tomorrow. This will tell me what is messed. I am thinking the transmission is pretty scroo'ed judging by the symptoms (shaking, slipping, loss of power at high rpm). If it is very costly to fix my current auto trans, I'm thinking I will swap it for a 5spd. I just had a few questions though...

When switching a ka24e transmission, this is so far what I think i need:trannyclutch + pedalsflywheelmaster/slave cyl.and any lines...?

and my questions are:will only 89-91 ka-e transmission's fit, or can I get newer years? also, does the ka-de trans fit ok with the ka-e setup? Is there anything else I need other than what's on my list - ie anything electrical? I just would like to know this info so I can price it all out to see if it's worth while to replace, rather than fix my auto.

And also, will this affect my speedo? I've heard of some issues with transmission swaps and the speed sensor being messed up because of it.

Anyone that knows this info and/or has experience with this, please email me or post here. That would be AWESOME
