Hey guys. I'm in need of some advice. About a month ago I bought a rebuilt engine and transmission (5 speed) for my 95 240SX. I'm having a friend swap it out and he has recently noticed that the transmissions are not the same. According to him, on the old one (the original) there's a sensor at the top of the bell housing which he suspects is a crankshaft position sensor, something the transmission I bought does not have. Consequently, the car will crank but not turnover. Anyone know about this? Do I need to return the transmission I bought and get one with the sensor? Are there different tranmissions for this car? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey just saw the post. The transmission you grabbed is from a S13. The S14 has the crankshaft postition sensor on the bellhousing, the S13 doesn't. From what I've heard, there are two ways to fix the problem. You could get a bellhousing from an S14 (maybe your old transmission). Or you could modify the sensor to fit the S13 bellhousing. Good luck, let me know how it goes as I'm going to doing my 5 speed swap soon and I also have an S13 transmission.
