Transmission stuck in park..Help

Please help. My girlfriends 1997 240 is stuck in park. It is an automatic with 57K miles. I came on here before about the same car wouldn't go past second gear. Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated, I know you guys know nissans.the car starts fine, runs normal, the button which you push works fine, I pulled the cover off and the can see the cable move. It is as if some one put a metal plate there or ssomething.?

hmmm...i already moved the same post from the all motor forum to the online mechanic section. i don't know how i missed this one.
