i bought a new engine and transmission for my 240sx ka24e, and looking at the transmission last night i noticed a spring half sticking out and closed in between the top and bottom of the gearbox. i havent gotten into opening up the gear box but are there springs in there that can be messed up or what? ive looked for some diagrams but ive had no luck. if anyone knows id appreciate some info.luigi

The only spring I am aware of (and the one I think you are talking about) is the little one that sits between the shifter and the transmission. It just sits in there and compresses when you tighten down the shifter plate.

It isn't going to mess up anything, it just sits there.

There are quite a few springs around the casing. There are two bolts at the middle of the transmission holding down springs, another one on that same middle section at the top with another spring. There are more springs where the shifter goes, one at the top, two more at the sides. They do things however, they keep tension on the shifter (the ones at the back) the ones at the middle, I'm still investigating on a spare transmission I'm tearing down.
