I have a rebuilt transmission (hard parts too) which has a difficult to describe frictiony-stuttery sort of sound in 1st only and only a hard acceleration from a complete stop. It last for only a sec or two and I feel a stutter or two. On occasion with foot all the way to the floor it feels like the gear sort of engages midway through the first stutter (car is already moving) and the car sort of jumps forward. Any ideas what it could be?

Ask to be present when they redo it and talke pics of teh parts as they come out.

That way in case anything mechanical is galled, you can check the receipts they should have on file, if they replaced a galled part after they work on it again.

Dont be afraid to bring it back we had cases were owners had to do that once or twice for it to be gotten right.

Its most important to make sure taht any screw-up dont damage hard parts, cuz after they fix a screw -up teh hard part may have diminished life expectancy.

Thats why its so important to check what things look like when they come out.

Slight vibration after atranny job are not unusual and not always the shops fault as it can be the driveshaft/driveshaft mounts which needs to be disconnected for the transmission job and may have been ready to go anyway. But that will never show itself as an actual audible noise but vibration only (usually around 40-45mph).
