transmission smokes

Ok the title says it allrecently my second gear started to go out (i guess) i couldnt down shift into it so i replaced transmission fluid to proper levelsi did notice the lower shift boot or whatever it is called was torn and the new one will go one tomorrow evenin after school and workbut right now when i high rpm my car it smells bad, smoke come out from my transmission and shifter area, and my gears try to lock upanyone have an idea i searched the forums and found nothin as well

grinding on upshift and downshift to second but right now i baby it and skip second completly and havent hit high rpm in a week i guess

How low was the trans on fluid, you may have done some pretty bad damage to it.

thats the thing it was really that low but what came out was ****ty and just gunky my car was flooded 2 years ago but everything was rebuilt and when i bought it i was told all the fluids in it were fresh

it sounds like ur fluid was long overdue and probably killed it. might be bad gears

Transmissions are cheap, I don't think I have ever spend more then $150 on a used trans. You might have had a rear main seal leak and not even known it. Usually a manual transmission starts to make humming sound when its low.

it does that only in 5 at low rpm like 2100 to 2700

i agree, trannies are cheap, swap it out and while ur in there save urself some trouble and do teh rear main seal, clutch unless its newish and other things like that

yea i got a lot of tools for this but my garage is a little unworthy with 1 jack and 1 jackstand

get a friend it it shoudl be doable, i helped swap a rear dif and we dropped it on my friends chest
