Post

Hey everyone just looking for some help and suggestions. My 91 tt transmission slips when it reaches normal running temperature but runs fine when cold. Was wondering what could be causing this or what it may be that I need to repair. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Have you checked the fluid level?

ATF = ATF, so not really an option.

1) check fluid level
a) fluid low, add fluid
b) fluid full, see 2

2) flush and fill your transmission fluid. DO NOT drain and refill, you must flush out all the old fluid

There are no weights, like motor or gear oils. There's Dextron IV etc etc, but if his transmission is slipping, it's not the type of fluid. It's the age or amount of it.

For a manual transmission there are different oil weights yes, but an automatic is just atf. Whether it be mercon, dextron, there are different types of each automatic transmission fluid that are sometimes vehicle specific.

After trying to figure out the logic in some of the responses in this thread, I figured it'd be a good idea to throw this out there:

Manual transmissions don't slip lol.

LOL briggs. I'm assuming because the OP said possibly the clutch plate he has a manual transmission. It is possible with a misadjusted clutch pedal for it to start slipping once the fluid warms up. It is also possible the clutch disc is toast or the pressure plate has given up. OP try adjusting the clutch pedal free play and see if that helps.

True, here's the proper adjustment guide:
