Ive been working on the car a little bit. NO ECU codes. No transmission codes.

According to previous owner, the car has been dealer maintained since he bought it back in 1993. Every service item has been done. The car is very very very clean for a 93 with 193k miles. He said the transmission started to slip so he drove it on home and let it sit.

Car will not shift because it cant build up enough speed to shift out of 1rst gear.

Start car up, move shifter to drive (rpms rev for like 2 seconds around 1500rpm then drop down to idle (car is now in gear), press on gas car barely moves and revs up.

Either the first gear clutchs is completely shot, or the torque converter is shot, or its not building up enough pressure.

My money is on the torque converter. No codes, clean transmission fluid, dealer maintained, I think the torque converter just wore out.

What you guys think. I used the pedal and shifter sequence to make it spit out the codes. And used a nissandata cable to check the ecu for codes.

I wish i bought conzult instead so I could make the transmission do a self test.

Is this on a M30 or J30?

On the J's transmission, the most likely thing to go is the "rev" sensor. Very common as the vehicle gets older. The most common thing you'll notice is the RPM build but no power. Shutting off the engine, waiting a couple of minutes and turning it back on basically resets the sensor. The car will shift normally till the sensor trips up again. A failing "rev" sensor leaves no codes.

The rev sensor does give a code.

Transmission Self DiagnosticsCourtsey of GerardjgTransmission Self Diagnosticsusing AT light below your temperature gauge on the dash1-Warm up engine2- Shut off car and turn ignition switch to ACC position3-Wait 5 seconds4-Move shifter to D5-Turn ignition switch on do not start

AT check light should come on for about 2 seconds

6-Move shifter to 37- step on gas fully and release8-Move shifter to 29-Move shifter to 110-step on gas fully and release

The At Check light should start flashing 11 flashes aslight pause and start over again. All flashes should be the same length, any flash that is longer indicates a trouble the following list is what the trouble circuit or part is.

A longer flash indicates

1st Flash Revolution sensor2nd flash Speed sensor3rd flash Throttle position sensor4th Shift solenoid valve a5th Shift solenoid valve b6th overrun clutch solenoid7th tourqe converter clutch solenoid8th fluid temp sensor9th engine speed signal10th turbine revolution sensor11th pressure solenoid valve

DriverDriver said the rev sensor will cause the transmission to slip and it wont give a code.

I then posted all the possible codes and rev sensor is one of them. So if the rev sensor was bad, a code would be stored.

I checked the codes, and none are stored.

he meant a code as in the Check engine light turning on.

Those are stored in the ECU.did the transmission Diags give a long blink for the rev sensor ??

Hmm I've been trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with my 93 and I just noticed that my light blinks 12 times not 11 when doing the listed steps.
After I release gas pedal for the last time it gives one long flash(rev sensor) then five short ones one more long flash (torque converter solenoid) then five more short flashes. Am I reading this right, or is the first long flash just a beginning to know you've entered the diagnostic test. If that is so, then my problem is the overrun clutch solenoid. Ugh! I'm so confused and I'd really like to get this back properly operating soon. Thanks for any advice :)

Mine has always has a long flash then pause then 11 quick flashes.

I always assumed the long flash was as you said , a beginning of the test flash.
