Well my 1994 Q now has 60k on it now. I noticed something the other day when I was pulling in to my complex. I would slow down for the speed bumps to almost a stop. As I accelerate just past the speed bumps, slightly up hill, the car starts to give such a slight, barely noticeable shudder.

It does not do it any other gear. Is there something wrong here? Maybe a solenoid?

Lock-up? Tell us about your transmission's care. Flushes? Pan drops? How often? May be wear or you may need cleaning and service.

The transmission had a flush at 31k & 47k along with a transmission mount. That is the total amount of service the transmission has received.

Did a pan drop on my 500 mi ago and saw metal flakes and alot of sludge. The transmission has had two flushes in its life, 68K

I had a local shop do another pan drop and here was more metal. and some build up arond the magnet.

Paid for a full inspection and found the actual transmission was fine but the tc was shot.

This explains the shudder and drive line vibration I have been having. Getting car back tomorrow. Q45tech stated that around 1 to 1.5K rpm the TC will shudder when going

The previous vibration I had was a drive shaft.

Spend the money to at least get the pan dropped and see what is going on. I feel I have saved my transmission (not the TC) because I took the time to drop the pan

That is the exact symptoms my car has. I'm curious to know what exactly had to be replaced. The computer or individual components? Who did the work? Approximate cost?

If my transmission is bad, which I'm thinking if my situation is like yours, it isn't. But if it is, I will be so ticked at infiniti. This will be my second Q that ate a transmission.

Thanks for the info.

1/2 bottle of Lubeguard Black trans additive may help (at NAPA only). Got rid of some shudder in my '92 Q trans.

I have 53k on my 94 Q, I just had the transmission pan dropped, new filter screen put in and a new filter that fits outside of transmission, had it filled with synthetic about 200 miles ago, yesterday I cleaned the TB, after I finished I took it for a spin, all went fine. Today I was on my way to get front shocks installed, I was on cruise at about 60. I forgot to mention about five miles before the incident I will mention later I had, for the first time since I have owned it I punched it, it went from 60 to 100 real fast, I let up and went back to 60, about 5 miles later, with cruise on I was climbing a small hill and all of a sudden it started to shudder real bad, I clicked off the cruise and punched it, it again took off like a scared cat, no misses or shudders. I then drove about 50 miles without incident. After the mechanic finished putting the shocks on I asked him to check the MAF contacts, he did said they were fine. I then drove about 1 mile to a store, came out, started it up it died, I restarted it, it died again, I restarted it, I then raced the engine and all was fine.

I wasn't able to complete my last message, I ran out of space. What I was wondering is if I could get some feed back from you Q owners??? I guess at this point I intend to just pretend it didn't happen and wait until it is more persistent because these interminent things can break you, money wise. Please advise!!!! Wayne

Wayne at this point I wouldnt be too worried.I am certain your symtpoms are unconnected to your earlier hard driving.Others drive like that all the time.

Is this your exact symptom? When driving between 45-68 mph on even terrain, gently accelerating a strong shudder appears or when holding speeds in that range but going slightly uphill?

It just happens that at that exact load+revs your transmission is bouncing between locking up the TC and unlocking it, it can;t decide, because the load is right at the border between the 2 requirements.

I had a car that did that when i bought it 2.5 years ago, still does, has extra 30,000 miles of <hard> driving since then on same transmission ( driven by good friend now who really uses the hi end of the tach and speedo)

Some say varnish on valve bodies may cause this, others say engine may be down ever so slightly from spec where its supposed to be at those revs, so TCU is about to switch the lock-up TC off, when it does the revs rise a bit and the power is there to go back, to TC lock-up.

The most common solution is to leave car in "3" instead of "D" at slower speeds. Not a bad idea regardless anyway.Since you reduce lugging on engine and TC that way.Until I got my level ten transmission and 4.11 rear diff, I always left all my Q's in "3" in urban environment , up to 65 mph or so, for more power, some engine braking , less lugging on engine and transmission and better (=more, due to revs) ATF flow.

Fred, Thanks much for info, what do you think about my Q dieing 2 or 3 times then when I reved the engine it ran fine?? This happened just as I started it up after a quick stop. Engine was completly warmed up. Thanks Wayne I need the very top of the front shock, under the hood, about the size of a quarter, plastic or rubber cap. to keep moisture off of shock. Mine is missing, I think you told another guy you might have some parts for sale. Wayne

The stalling is generally unrelated to the transmission shudder (if your transmission symptoms match those I described closely)

As for stalling engine I can only speculate a vaccuum leak.or an intermittedly misfunctioning sensor.I would post that as a seperate thread here.
