Hello, I'm in Japan and have a 90 Q's Silvia with a CA18DE. The shift from 1st to 2nd is a little jerky and I wondered what to do to fix it. I've used the machine where you pump fresh transmission fluid in, start the car and put it in each gear for 5 seconds, then pump that fluid out and new back in. It shifted better for a day or so then back to the way it was. It shifts perfect after I get up to highway speed, or after I run the engine up to about 6 grand but when it's cold it shifts a little late and not smooth at all. Does anyone know what else to do or is this typical among Nissan automatics?

:help

How many miles are on the transmission? It might just be f**ked. My Sentra was doing this, and it was simply due to transmission wear, wouldn't have been fixed unless I got a rebuild.

It's sort of tough to go by mileage in Japan. It's got about 60,000km on it (about 36,000 miles) but that's fairly normal for a 10-15 year old car in Japan. Things are much closer together here.

I heard in japan any car over 35k gets their engine replaced, it's cheaper than maintaining it due to emission laws, but I heard I do not know..

Your synchro also may be damaged. Make sure you are also using the correct weight in transmission fluid.

Same here. That was 4,000 miles ago and only does it every once in awhile. Dealership quoted me $600...yeah right.
