I'm just trying to figure out how to get my reverse lights to work and what these other sensors are. There's no loose connections that will hookup with my 2 unhooked sensors, so I'm guessing you have to solder them in? Up by the front passenger side tire and tie rod, there are 4 cut wires dangling, and one 7-wire connector. Anybody know what those go to? How do I find out which wires to hook up to my reverse sensor?

My speedometer works just fine, just curious if this is the speed sensor, the big 2-wire hookup on the bottom of the transmission?

And secondly, is this the reverse light sensor? It's on the passenger side of the transmission, furthest one up by the engine, but behind the clutch slave cylinder. Has a two wire hookup and seems to be leaking alot of transmission fluid:

And lastly, what is this sensor for? It's also on the passenger side, but right above the speed sensor, further back on the transmission. It's a 2 wire hookup also:

And for all of these sensors, they seem to be leaking alot, is that normal? Can I just tighten them with a wrench, or is there a special of putting them in and taking them out? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure stuff out!

First pic is Speed.Second Pic would be reverse.Last pic is Neutral position switch.

They usually leak a little, but not much just enough to keep them wet. The only way to seal them is to drain the transmission, dry them, RTV them and or teflon tape the threads and then wait for the RTV to dry before filling the transmission again. Comes down to whether you can live with the oil leak.

What colors are the wires of those connectors by your tie rod?

Hey thanks alot, you seem to know everything about these engines! What would the nuetral position switch be used for then? Just wondering if I'm losing anything valueable by not having it connected. I may seal them up sometime down the road then.

The nuetral switch is both yellow wires, and the reverse sensor is both black wires. I doubt the big 7 pin connector has to do with these wires now does it? Can't find a matching connector for it though. The 4 wires hanging were gray, black, and red and green I believe. The gray one was a fairly big gauge wire though, like 12 gauge compared to the others which all looked like 18. I'll have to double check that though. Not quite sure which ones hook up where!

Wires will change colors occasionally. They usually change between the sensor wiring and the main harness wiring. So the reverse sensor wires dont have a corresponding color to the harness because the reverse wires on the harness are Green and Green/White. Look for those two wires on the chassis/lower engine harness to get the reverse lights working.

The Neutral position sensor does not really serve an important function. It tells the ECU when the car is in neutral, thats all.

If your speed works then the 7 wire connector must go to something else, but there should be a connector with 8 slots called E202 that holds the wiring for the speed sensor (Red, Red/Yellow), alt sensor (White/Red), reverse sensor (Green, Green/White), and neutral position sensor (Green/Orange, Black)

Well, I finally got around to looking under the car again...here's a couple of pictures of my loose wires and connections:

Here's the 4 loose ones, 2 black wires, 1 gray, and a peach colored one.

This is the 8 pin connector, but only has 7 wires running in. The colors are tan, black, and white on 1 side; and pink, blue, orange, and gray on the other side.

I'm not quite sure what wires to use to get the reverse lights to work....that's all I want working. Anybody that can help me out? Do you know which wires to use speedracer? Thanks alot guys!

I dont know what that big plug is for. You got some electrical gremlins :S

Id go through those 4 wire you got, red, black, grey, green, see if any of them have power with the key on. I think that green one might hot. If it is, that is power to the backup light switch, and you're 1/2 way there.

Yeah I probably will. I just noticed in my pic that the big gray wire has 2 smaller wires in there, one looks green, other red or something. I'll probably start there. Anybody know for sure on which wires are which?

So I checked all 5 of the loose wires, and all 7 wires on the plug, and only one put out a tiny bit of voltage. This was with the car turn off, but the key in the on position. I thought the lights came on even when the car wasn't running? Does the car need to be running to check for voltage then? And I should get at least 12 volts right? Not quite sure what to do next.....
