Hello everyone,

I have a 1991 Infiniti Q45, and I need to know if anyone here has removed their transmission. I'm in the process of removing mine but I'm having an issue with figuring out how to remove the top four bolts of the transmission. The very top bolts I can probably get to from the top of the engine, but the two below those I'm really having trouble with. Searched the forum for topics on this and those were topics from 2005, has anyone attempted this task recently? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Best way to do it is with long extensions (3-4ft worth) and get them from underneath behind the transmission.

Should I let the tail of the transmission drop a little in order to see the bolts?

Yes! Just don't let it go too low and hurt the motor mounts....

You can see the bolts (at least with your fingers, "see") from the engine. My advice is (as listed above) get 4 ft of 1/2" extensions and have a helper "guide" them onto the bolts. You'll need a flex head.

As for dropping the transmission a little-----well, you can't do that until you loosen those bolts!!!

You shouldn't have to, just keep it supported and remove all bolts. I broke a cheap 1/2" flex, so be prepared to have good ones, because those suckers are torqued on there hard.

Removing to replace? I hope you have a lift, a transmission jack and a couple of young and strong friends.

I have a kwiklift, and a transmission jack, this is my second time doing this, I'm pretty strong,I guess, I'm not so worried about that, just worried about not getting hurt and not damaging anything with my car. The first car I did was a J30! I just need time in figuring this out! I was able to loosen 2 of the four bolts, now working on the blindest bolt on the transmission, and I still have to disconnect the torque converter from the flywheel!

I have another question! How were you guys able to remove the gusset or dust cover from the transmission, I'm trying to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel??? Should I pull out the transmission a little and maybe it will just fall out, right now I removed the four bottom bolts, the FSM shows that there maybe clips above holding it in place, how do I remove this, almost ready to drop the trans, please any suggestions!!!
