And you willingly paid this guy to rebuild your transmission? sounds like you might have just screwed yourself, warranty or not...

I told with the machenic. He didn't want to document. However we found the source of the leak. It is from the axle seal and transmission fuild fan seal.We replaced the axle seal 2 times but it is still leaking.I also sure that the transmission is ok, because before the axle was changed there was no leak at all. So the bottom line is the axle could be vent very very slightly we couldn't check it though. The components of new axle is new except for the shaft which could be reused. I asked the other machenic. That's only possibility which is my last hope.If the axle isn't bad, I would be crazy...Thanks.

Thanks for concern. But it's not got to be end.The reason is that I would like to buy a genuine Nissan part which is the front axle seal. So I sent e-mail about the seal to http://www.nissanparts.org , but they told me that you need to buy two parts whose parts number are 38342-81x01 and 38342-03e00. As I told, I replaced the seal two times already. It is only one rubber seal which was bought at Autozone. So I asked them about what I replaced with parts number, 710125, but they counldn't check it because the part numer is not a factory part number. I don't know where I can find the genuine part.Thanks.

Look at the data tag (metal stamped tag from the factory) on the passenger side of the fire wall. Look for the transmission code that starts with RE4____, and fill in the blanks. If you have an open differential, I have the driver side axle seal you need (I will sell it to you for $5+shipping) and I can give you the Nissan part # of the passenger side.

You have an open differential (only one wheel spins). The differential is part of the transmission on our cars that actually turns the axle.

The part #'s you need are 38342-81X00 and 38342-81X01.

Hi.You mean there are two parts. What is that I replaced? It was only one rubber thing which corvered a metal ring.If I get the parts, how to replaced the seal?I knew to change the old one but I have no idea to assemble two parts which is what you told me.Can I get a picture or Manual?

Don't you have a passenger side axle?If you have it, I would like to order the parts right now.Thanks.

One is for the driver's side the other is for the passenger side.

You just remove the axle, take out the old seal, and install the new seal.

The one I have is for the driver's side.

Hi.I can't understand what you are saying because my car was replaced only passenger side axle. Do I have to replace both of the seals?I think the seal of driver side is OK. I mean the driver side is no leak.My car has automatic transmission and 1996 was made.I'm really confusing now.

I'm sorry scott.

HiNow, I tell you what was going on yesterday.I went the shop where I replaced the front passenger side axle to tell them I replaced the seal two times, but it is still leaking.I guess the axle is very very slightly vent, so I want to change another axle. They accepted my opinion but there was anther promble which is the bracket supporting the axle was broken. They told me unless you replace the bracket first, they cann't work because of warranty. Besides they show me it cost $300. I think it is not my fault because when the seal was replaced, the nut was overtighten so it is broken( I guess). I went to anther shop where the seal was replaced. I said about the bracket with the machenic who replaced the seal. He denied his fault, but he do new bracket for me without any cost.

After that happen I called the first shop "I will replace the bracket by myself, so you guys just change the new axle with free. And I will give you new seal which is a genuin nissan part. Would you chagne the seal when the axle is change?" But they said NO "we will replace only the new axle."

I know the second shop has to have some loss, but I think they should replace the seal because they make the leak first time. So I think they should make to stop the leak. Don't think so?

Thanks.

If the driver side has no leak then don't replace it.

If the guy that did your transmission will replace the seal, then just have him do the axle since it has to be removed to change the seal.

Everythings, replacing new braket, axle and seal, should be done until next week. I will let you guys know about final result.

Besides,I have a kind of stupid quesition. I found the used tranmission which has only 24k from 99' maxima and reasonable price. If it is bought by me, can I replace the transmission by myself on my garage? What kinds of special tools do I have to get? I'm not got to doing right now but plan to do.So I will prepare to do that, if I'm able to know what I need, what I have to know and how much time and money does it need to. I'm already studying a repair manual now... huh...

Thanks.
