guys, my 92 Q with 74k needs a transmission. I can't spend the money on OEM reman unit. The local shop wants to charge almost same amount to install salvage yard unit with over 100k or reman from Infiniti.

I looked at couple of rebuild kits online. One from Team 10(?) with blue Raybestos clutch packs. I'm leaning towards this set, but any other recommendations?

My trans pump makes a high pitch whine at startup, I'm wondering if the rebuild will take care of this or am I looking at torque converter, input shaft replacement. Also, what is the procedure to increase line pressure? is the solenoid adjustable?

I plan on getting an external cooler and synth fluid.

I've been told to replace the trans and exhaust mounts/hangers at the same time.

Am I missing anything? TCU from 93....

Also, where can I find this "NICO ECU"??? sorry...too many questions in one post.

Pete.

Is the whine your only symptom? A lot of us hear it and it doesnt seem to indicate any kind of major problem.

Contact Wes @ q45.org regarding the ECU.

Try locating a reputable JDM importer and getting one from them. Install shouldn't run you more than $300 or less. If not, find another shop. The transmission should run you about $600.

you can get a level 10 rebuild kit with detailed instructions on their website... They also include a template for modifying the valve body.. unless you've built nissan trans before i wouldnt expect to do it rihgt the first time but you might be able to do it... I dont want ot be the one to shoot you down or stop you...

IPT (importperformancetrans.com) has rebuild kits too, htat are superior (IMO) to level ten...

ABout the ECU, they are on hold until september/october.

I should have been more clear.....I have the whine and no movement in any gear. The trans gave way while I was on business and my wife was driving the car. She told me the engine was revving but very little movement. She would shut the car off and restart few moments later and drive a bit before it would not move any longer. After few days of being parked in the garage I was able to back it out to wash the car, but after 1hr I had to push it back into the garage.

IPT kit is $549 but not sure if they include the blue Raybestos clutches. I was mistaken about Level 10, i can't find a rebuild kit for Q45.

Drivetrain.com has a kit for $285, seems like a standard kit.Dialaclutch.com has if for $247.Bulkpart.com $267 (They have TransGo shift kit for $48)

As for the rebuild, it's always a big risk. I've rebuilt a FWD Maxima transmission for a firend with good luck. I've torn down a lot of GM transmissions. But never for my own car....

I tried a JDM link someone here posted, but the site is down. Do you guys know anyone near Nashville or L.A.?

I found these guys, but I'm not sure of their rep...they have decent eBay feedback.http://jdmtransmissions.com/In....html
