So i bought a 98spec transmission (new) ,and new clutch, after a couple of months car starts to grind in a few gears and making strange noises, so dropped the transmission and replaced throwout bearing (was bad),everything worked fine for about a month, now getting noise when clutch not engaged, when you press clutch noise goes away, whats strange is if holding clutch down and you put it in gear it starts to rattle but not in neutral, could it be the throwout bearing again?

Does the car drive fine and shift without grinding?

Car drives good but grinds once in awhile from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, the warmer the car gets the more it happens

I have same problem. Do you get clunking noise when you shift/accelerate/decelerate?

Do you have a multi-disc/plate clutch?

If its a multi one, when not engaged, the plates can clang together. My friend has a triple plate and it sounds like he's dragging cans under his car when he's not even moving.

The reason my transmission grinds a little when shifting from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 is because the previous owner has somehow managed to f*** up the already durable differential. He has done some thing that allows the ring gear to move in and out causing the differential to act like it had excessive backlash. When i want to shift from 1 to 2, the differential ring gear moves by allot, causing the transmission to move the gears while synchros are trying to adjust themselves with the matching speed. Hence, causing that small gear grind.

Now if you were to wait a little longer, then slowly shift to 2, you shouldn't hear the grind.

In my case, i just need a new differential. The symptoms i am experiencing seems to be the same as yours.

The rattle sound i get is from the throw out bearing actually rattling when the clutch is not pressed. Not to mention i have solid trans mounts so i get to hear everything. However, since the bearing does not make a sound when is under pressure, there should be no major thing to worry about.

Pulled the transmission out yesterday ,and figured out the problem, the clutch from centerforce has these weights on it that where all screwed up, some how they came apart causing all the noise and sometimes getting in the way of the throwout bearing, so new clutch going in
