this morning my wife's 2008 rogue's transmission looks like it failed...

the noise was horrendous. i couldnt hear the radio over the noise. it sounded like the car was falling apart.. luckily her journey to work is short and it made it there..

so the car has been towed to the dealer.. who kindly informed us that nissan dont offer courtesy cars!!! what a joke.. we pay almost $40,000 for a car which has a major problem at 6 months old and now my wife is stuck without a car at work in -35'c and is 7 months pregnant.. ...

i will never buy a nissan again, and in fact im tempted to just sell this one..

i phoned nissan about this, and the best they could do was for someone to call me back in 3 to 4 days... and told me it was bad luck, but i should of bought the extended warranty.. i mean WTF, its still inside the full coverage warranty.

every other car ive ever owned that has needed warranty work has had a courtesy car.. most delivered it right to me..

and this is made even worse by the fact that nissan know about the crap transmissions....

NOT HAPPY...

Which dealership did you buy from? Maybe we shouldn't use real names, but you could lead-on to the quadrant in the city. - Do you have an AWD or FWD?

Sounds like your dealer handled it quite poorly - was it them who said you should buy the extended warranty? - I think its because they outright state in the contract that you'll receive a courtesy car with extended warranties.

Hope all works out and your wife makes it home safe. Bundle up and keep warm.

both the dealer and nissan canada said i should of bought the warranty.. to be fair to the dealer the service manager said he would look into it this afternoon and get back to us.. but i dont hold much hope..

its a joke that a new car can fail so badly in this way. and then for the dealer and the manufacturer to make it sound like we are an inconvenience to them is terrible... hello!!! its your fault that you cant build a car to work properly!!!!

i never for one second imagined we wouldnt get a courtesy car.. every car i have ever owned from new has offered a car when in for repairs.. i nearly fell over when he said they wouldnt give us one after i asked when he would be delivering the replacement car.. and had i have known that nissan takes such a poor attitude towards their warranty we would have never bought it..

its an SL AWD, top of the line with all the options..

I don't understand any of this - if the CVT failed within the first year, what relevance does a long-term extended warranty have? The CVT will be covered under manufacturers warranty, and all the dealers that I've been to offer courtesy cars when doing major warranty work for you.

I'm from Lethbridge, had my CVT rattle issue occur about 6 months ago and the dealer immediately ordered a new CVT. When it came time to install, they provided me with a courtesy car no questions asked. Granted, it was only for the day, not for the entire period of time that I was waiting for the part to arrive, but the point is your dealer's statement "Nissan does not offer courtesy cars" is completely false, perhaps that's the policy of that particular dealer but it doesn't apply to all Nissan dealerships and that is proved by my experience. Very poor service, the manufacturer defect lets you down and then the dealer is rude to you, somehow implying that it's your fault for not buying an extended warranty??!! That is complete crap, this is a manufacturer warranty issue and they should learn how to treat customers with respect.

Tell those idiots to phone McDonald Nissan in Lethbridge, they are awesome and actually insisted on giving me a courtesy vehicle, and when the transmission problem was discovered were very understanding, almost apologetic, and very quick to get the new part ordered and installed. My point is, there is no justifying the actions of your dealership, that is NOT the way to run a "service" shop, they need to remember that they're in the service business and to act accordingly.

Anyway, you've got my sympathy. Hopefully they can get the part in quickly and then it's just a half day job to replace the CVT, which is a redesigned, improved part for 2009 so you should have decades of reliability from it once installed.

What I was told by my local dealer in N.H. regarding extended warrantees and courtesy cars, is that you aren't entitled to get a courtesy car until the regular warrantee expires and the extended warranty kicks in. In other words, you aren't entitled to a courtesy car until the initial warrantee of 36,000 miles is up. Hmmm....they neglected to tell me that when I purchased the extended warrantee through Nissan !! I needed my transmission replaced because of the rattle at 12,000 miles, so the extended warrantee hadn't kicked in yet. My dealer still gave me a courtesy car. They said that the work has to be approved by Nissan Corporate before Corporate will reimburse the dealer for the courtesy car. I drove 3 different Saabs for 12 years, and was always given a courtesy car, no matter what the repair, so I was a bit shocked the first time the Nissan dealer told me that they don't give courtesy cars. You seem to have the misfortune of having a lousy dealership. Whenever I take my car in for any service or repair I have one of the used cars from the lot at my disposal. Heck, the Service Manager actually comes in early and scrapes the windows and warms it up for me. The dealership doesn't have to be an a**, they just choose to.

Dude, I'm with you that Nissan sucks with customer relations. NO QUESTION. I canceled my extended warranty and told them to go f*ck themselves after the first refusal to fix my transmission. I also had the police escort me off a dealership's lot for knocking the service manager on his *$$ and parking the courtesy car out in the street for being rude to me. If I had a seven month pregnant wife I'd guess the service manager would be looking up at us. Coming from the south I just have a different mentality then you northern boys who want to be politically correct. Needless to say even with all my bullsh*t I have had a courtesy car given to me at each service attempt. What losers! Yeah, I feel you brother. Never again will I purchase another Nissan.
