Guys,

I have been having a problem getting my car to go into first gear sometimes. It grinds pretty badly, and I've always thought that the transmission was shot. Today I realized that my clutch is actually on the way out, and slipping badly. I've never had a clutch go bad before. Is it possible that the problem getting the car into first is related to the clutch not engaging properly, and that the transmission itself might be fine? I mean, minus all of the grinding that I've put it through?

Yes, your clutch is most likely your problem.

I would also replace your slave for the transmission, it made a hell of a dif. on my 89. Shifted like brand new.

yeah my slave went out a few months back but when it did the pedal just went to the floor no pressure at all.

mine was stock from 89 tho so it was time, but thats just a cheap part you should change at clutch over haul anyways and at least check the master for problems
