My transmission will will not shift out of 2nd gear. The fluid level is ok and is not leaking. I have never done a flush or filter replacement on it. I was thinking about doing that or just getting a new transmission in general. A local yard had one with a 90 day warranty for a good price. Just need some advice on what I should do. How hard is it to swap the transmission? I've done plenty of engine/ transmission swaps before just never did one on the q45. Any tips or pointers guys?

I think I'd try a transmission flush, along with some sort of "magic" transmission fluid first. Mostly because I'm curious if these products ever work. I think the transmission swap would be straightforward if its the same year model (connectors etc). Only trouble might be getting the car high enough to get the old one out, but if you've done one before you know that. I changed three 700-R4's in a 1955 Chevy I had, first one took 3-4 hours, last one literally took 45 minutes. Let us know how it goes.

The upper top bolts need the use of a 3-4 foot extension.

I'm not sure a 90 day warranty is worth the swap labor. But your cost are lower than ours. We had one customer who paid use 4 times to swap junkyard trannies all in one year.

We have had such bad luck with domestic junkyard take outs we refuse now and insist on Nissan remans which offer 12/12 but always last at least 4years/100k.

Before you run the newish transmission do a pan drop and filter/screen replacement........pan/magnet clean..........the use a BG flush machine to recirculate BG Quick Clean [varnish remover] for Transmissions, then replace all ATF [machine hold 14 quarts to replace 10.5] [Dex111g] and add 6 ounces of Lubeguard Red to start.

To what Q45tech says, I would drop pan first before purchase, and just after the white papaer towel test of the ATF. If there is a any depth of clutch material deposit, pass for a remanufactured Nissan one as a cheaper and more reliable solution.

Replace main engine seal and add suxiliary ATF cooler at the same time.
