the transmission went in my 92 q45 w/ tcs today.i gave her a rest for a day or two and she would not start at first but i got her to run. a few days before i thought the problem was fixed ...... i have a real bad vibration around 2000 rpm and one day it just went away. so when i get it started the i put the car in drive and it rev-ed up like it was in neutral. the car will not shift in to overdrive or into drive off the line. on the other hand the transmission will shift in to 3 2 and 1 but when starting in 2 or 3 the rpm are at 2000 before the car starts to creep forward vary slowly.when in first gear the transmission starts strong but the something sounds like it grinding in side of it .the car rolls back an inch or two when in drive then stop but but still the transmission will not move forward in drive. after adding fluid and driving to a Friend's shop the transmission was empty or did not read on dip stick.we add more fluid also, toping it off and still it slips and will not go into overdrive.the only good thing to come of this is that i have a warranty but it might be up soon so i need to fix it as soon as possible. can anyone tell me what caused this to happen and or tell me any valuable information related to this problem .possibly a 92 A/T volume from the FSM.

thanks

thanks

it was leaking from the hoses that are mounted next to the oil pan but only a little . it was like a drop or two a day.i didn't drive for two days and just would not go in drive gears only when shifting. drive worked when i started it today but only for a second. now all the other gears work fine, after adding more fluid. the transmission is now 1qt over filled .

if my warranty is up or it cant be replaced maybe i will sell her

Somehow get the extra quart out, they make an oil change kit you can buy from Wal-mart cheap, fit the tube down the fill hole and suck it out....... or if it has a drain plug. Make sure the level is exact! in park while HOT.You might have run a bunch of air in it when it was low. Then search q45.org or the Infiniti Mechanics section for the TCU diagnostic procedure and see what it says.

Look into changing all! the fluid and filter very, very, soon.

with a aftermarket cooler should i run the transmission lines from the old cooler and then to the new one or should i just run the new one.... i think heat is to blame, what do you think

If you drive it in winter, I think running in series with the OEM heat exchanger is worth considering.

There is no OEM ATF cooler.

I prefer to eliminate the factory unit, mainly because of its possibility to clog... which is half the reason why you bypass it in the first place!

if you put it in between the radiator and condensor (like you should IMO) then you wont need to worry about anything... ive driven my Q for 2 years like that and its been fine!

well i think the problem is heat because when i drove it before the transmission was fine now an hour later its doing the same thing, slipping and not shifting gears. i have my cooler in front of the a/c fan in the front of the bumper. maybe its my torque converter or something. i don't know, i have no knowledge of transmission at all except that it makes the car move.
