My Transmission seems to be having a problem... Most of the time i come to a complete stop it difficult to get it into first gear. I have to give it a couple of tries before i can get it into first. Also when i shift into second it kind grinds a little, same with third but not as severe. This doesnt happen all the time but it happens a lot. What can this be?

Give me some feed back please Thanks Guys!

It could be a few things:-Low Gear oil, easy to check.-Clutch is not disengaging. Hydraulics are usually the culprit. How does the clutch pedal feel when shifting? Check for clutch fluid leaking from the master and slave cylinder. If there are no leaks, try bleeding it well. Remove the damper box also if you haven't already.

If that doesn't help, you've got more serious problems like bad syncros in the trans or clutch problems.

I had this problem when I first did my SR. I had the wrong transmission fluid in it! I would even grind 4th every now and then. Make sure you put GL-4 fluid NOT GL-5. It makes a world of difference. I switched it out for redline MT-90 great stuff, worth the price, even the guys who were running the proper transmission fluid said it made a big difference, hope it helps.

Yes and if you go to autozone or pep boys, i guarantee every gear oil you find there is GL-5. Save yourself the trouble and order the Redline MT-90. It's 75w-90 and GL-4 so it complies with what the FSM calls for.

Yeah so i looked at my fill plug on my transmission and the mother F'ers that installed it stripped the crap out of it. It seems they used some kind of pliers to tighten it, but yeah i now i can't get it to loosen. I dont want to strip the bolt any more. Any other suggestions on this. Im planning to do the gear oil change and the clutch bleeding and all but i need to get that freaking but off.

THanks guys

vicegrips and if those dont work get a hacksaw and saw down the middle of the bolt about halfway through the bolt head, get a big flathead screw driver and then get a wrench that will hold on the end of the screw driver push down on the screw driver with one hand and turn the wrench with the other. sounds crazy but ive seen it done before

Just take out the shifter and fill from the top.

Everytime I messed with a 240SX transmission or SR transmission, the fill plug was a 3/8" square fitting (like the end of my breaker bar). All I did was stick my breaker bar head in there and give it a turn. I have no clue as to what "bolt head" you guys speak of.
