Transmission Problems:S14 only goes in 5th & reverse

My S14 only goes in 5th & reverse & it wont go in gears 1-4 at all.I got it towed to a transmission shop around here & they told me that I need a new transmission.Has this ever happened to any of you all?If so please explain how & what had to be done to get it on the road again.

Its an s14 transmission right?How much do you want for it?Are the synchros good & do all the gears engage smoothly?
