My frien refered me to this web site to try to find out the problem. I was driving my car and it felt like all of a sudden it slipped into neutral. None of the gears work they all act like neutral. If you rev up the motor it make a little winning noise. If anyone can help please reply.

If this is an automatic, you need to check the shifter linkage. Get a friend, and have him look at the transmission (between the trans and the radiator on mine), at the lever that should be moving as you select different gears. If it's not moving, your linkage has broken.

Im just curious as to what the whining may be. Is that typical of broken linkage?

The whining noise could be a bad planetary gear (common on the 4th gens, not 100% if the 3rd gens had the same problem).

If the linkage seems to be functioning properly, there is most likely an internal failure. If that's the case try looking on http://www.car-parts.com for a new trans.

The linkage seems to be fine... do u think it could possibly be the torque converter... or something broke to not let the fluid flow?ps. thanks for all the help man i really appreciate it.
