transmission problems i think

i have a 1990 Q45 Transmission is giving me problems. The other day im driving down the highway and all of a sudden the RPM's go all the way up and doesnt shift no more. Then car slows down and thats it. So i can turn on the car and drive a certain distance but then the gears go out and cant drive are these the first steps of transmission failure if so how much is the fix thanks a lot.

If you don't have one, you will want to add an external ATF cooler and change the rear engine seal, rear engine mount and probably the exhaust hangers, at the minimum.

Lots of posts in in the Infiniti Online Mechanic Forum, so may want to browse over there after you have read some in the Articles. Wouldn't be surprised if this post was moved there.

yep-she's gone. don't drive it till fixed. mine went out on I-95 near st aug. @85 w/ cruise on. got a used put in. 3 mos later had that one rebuilt with trans oil cooler. so far so good. good luck..

I'm dreading the day mine goes. Hopefully, I get rid of it before that happens. So far, no problems.

I'll bet your Torque converter is shattered as well. Search for a JDM transmission and you should get a transmission mount as well. Check http://wwwjdmexchange.com for a JDM transmission at a good price. Around 400 for the Jdm transmission.

transmission mounts aren't that expensive http://www.everythinginfiniti.com or just call and talk to Joe. External transmission cooler aren't that much either.

I think your transmission is gone. When it revs like that and you have no go go juice, it's usually shot.
