Post

Ok, I drive a 93' hardbody(d21) with a ka24e and 5 speed.

I recently did a clutch swap, and after completing it. I started getting a metal on metal scraping noise. Sounds like spinning a metal rod in a hole thats not lubed.

I pulled the trans and upon inspection(close once over) I cant notice anything wrong. Now the truck goes though all 5 gears and reverse with no grinds or any issues. But it has this noise when in motion, doesnt matter if Im in gear or in neutral. I need to find out what this issue is. This is my daily driver and dont have the cash to send it to a transmission shop!

Also, what gear oil does my transmission take? I pulled it, and removed the fill plug due to it being round instead of square.

So now I need to lube it.

Thanks in advance for any help,-Mike

Did you replace the throwout bearing?

Does it have enough oil in the trans?

Nissan manuals take specifically GL4 lube. If you filled it up with standard gear oil from the parts store, drain it right away and get the proper GL4. Napa sells GL4 in 2qt jugs, or you can go to your friendly Dodge dealer and pick up some of their NV4500 gear lube, which is a full synthetic (odorless!) GL4 lube by Castrol.

At $23.00/qt NV4500 is very expensive from Dodge. How many quarts should be in that trans?

Edit: 4.25 pints is the answer
