1993 Q45 245,000 miles. transmission will not go forward in drive if the engine is cold. We changed the transmission screen/filter thinking this would solve the problem, but it didnt. I do not know if the transmission has ever been changed or rebuilt before, but the gasket on the transmission oil pan had to be grinded off because it was so hard. If the new filter/screen did not solve this problem, what else could be causing the transmission to act like this?

Contaminanats in the fluid?

It is remarkable that you have no comment on its appearance nor its conditon, nor any maintenance history. Results of the white paper towel test? Auxiliary ATF cooler?

245,000 miles on a 93 Q transmission is roughly the equivalent of an 87 year old man who smoked all his life................he has a hard time going forward when cold also.

Although 93 [because they start off in 1st] lasted longer thn 90-92 it wasn't that much longer.

A BG Quick Clean and a total fluid exchange might bring some life back but at this age and wear you should expect poor results, but it is worth taking the chance.

If you follow Q45tech's advice call a BG Shop

http://www.bgfindashop.com

And sak if they will perform the exchange by dropping the pan, inspecting and cleaning it and the bolt, replacing the interior filter screen (which you have done), new O ring, pan gasket (which you have done) and one time use bolts.

If you missed any of those steps, get more parts from

http://www.infinitipartsusa.com

If your fluid is brown or black, you will ned to exchange the fluid twice using BG transmission Quick Clean the first time and probabably replacing the screen et al again.
