hi im new to the forums but i've used some of your g35 FAQ's. Recently i changed my clutch fluid and transmission fluid per your guy's walkthroughs. Yesterday right after i changed the tran fluid, my clutch has become alot stiffer. it didnt do it after the clutch fluid change only after the tran fluid change. i did it exactly as the walkthrough said, filled it up and then let the excess drain...so does anyone have any input on this as to why the clutch would be so stiff after a tran fluid change? any input would be appreciated...thank you.

Welcome to NICO!

Ok, lets break it down. First, I assume you have a 6MT, and you replaced your clutch fluid (hydraulic) with DOT 4 synthetic. Then you replaced your manual transmission case fluid with aftermarket.

Now, what fluid did you use for your transmission? There is a special friction modifier that is used, available at any Nissan/Infiniti dealership. The 6MT fluid should last 80-100k miles before it needs to be changed...

thanks and yes it is a 6MT and yes i did use DOT-4 for the clutch...i have a little over 100k miles so it was about time to change the fluid...i used the 2 quarts of redline MTL and 2 quarts redline MT-90. what is this friction modifier?

also, when my car is cold and i start i get weird clutch noises(not the normal noises ppl complain about) almost like a grinding noise, but it only lasts for a lil while until the car warms up a bit.

Try depressing your clutch while the noise happens...if it goes away, it's the typical G35/350Z clutch noise.

Not that I have had the G long enough to have pulled the transmission or anything - but if its like most other clutch/transmission setups I have worked on I would guess throwout bearing or possibly a pilot bearing...

Are you suppose to bleed the air out of the clutch line?

rn79870:

Yes, any line at all that is supposed to be filled with fluid other than water, should be bled in order to remove any trapped air in the fluid and line, as is always the case when changing those fluids. This includes brake line, clutch lines, power steering lines, and even radiator lines/flushes.
