Transmission problem 99' I-30

Hello all, first time poster here. Great info on this site.

Ok well I just purchased my first Infiniti yesterday. It has 120k on it great shape, lots of new parts, and good maintenance with lots of documentation. Paid $4400.

I take it out today and got the title work done. On my way home I stop at a light and when it turned green the car wouldn't move. It will shift into any gear but not move an inch. It was low on fluid so i put some dex3 in it with no change. I can hear a slight grind especially when I move it into park. I had my import mechanic come and get it with the flatbed. The car was driving perfect when I test drove it and all day yesterday and this morning. It had no problems going into any gear and shifting on the go. It was fine until I pulled up to that stop light after getting off the expressway.

After reading a little on this site I have a few questions for you all.

1. Any idea what im looking at here? Are the chances good that I'll have to replace the entire transmission?

2. If so any idea on what a rebuild or used swap would cost me?

3.Is it possible and cheaper to convert it to a manual transmission?

Pretty bad luck considering I just bought the car yesterday but it is what it is. Thanks for your replies.

Just an update my mechanic said it would cost 850 to put a used replacement in with 82k on it.

Damn that sucks. 850 isn't too bad of a price including installation. Hopefully it won't give you any more suprises in the future.
