Two weeks ago I changed my gear oil from whatever the hell was in it to Penzoil Synchromesh. Over the past two weeks the shifting has been getting smoother. It even got rid of the little clipping feeling from 4th to 5th at 4000rpm.
Just this friday I drove approximately 120 miles to Wisconsin. Bout three quarters of the way there, I noticed that the shifter was getting a little warm. This has happened before when it was farily hot out, but at the time it was 60 and raining. Once I got off the high way I did a couple of red line pulls on the country roads. During this I never got below 2nd. Pullin into my driveway, I could not get car to go back into first smoothly even with the clutch fully depressed. After about a half hour or so, I decided to go grab a bite, but I couldnt get the car to go into reverse. Tried second, no problem, but no first or reverse.
A friend of mine complained of having the same exact problem when he switched to syncromesh in his Mitsubichi HSX (3000Gt-vr4 concept). He adjusted his clutch to get more travel and it fixed the problem.
Back in march I adjusted my clutch to get a an engagement a little closer to the floor and have been driving like that ever since. Even on 120mi hauls I had no problems till now. So I adjusted my clutch one turn more engagement and it seems to have fixed the issue.
Have any of yall heard of these issues with this gear oil. Yeah, I read all the other posts about it and everyone seems to say it is equivalent to gl-4. The mitsu dude seems to think that as the clutch heats up it is not getting as much engagement force and isn't allowing th syncros to do thier job. Lemme know what yall think. Thanx in advance.
