What is wrong when the transmission (shifter button) will not let you press it in enough to come out of park? It is no the fliud level...it almost seems to be a switch?

There is a solenoid that is connected from the brake pedal to the shifter. That is what has failed. You can use an extra key or a piece of a coat hanger to shift it out of park. Push the key or coat hanger into the slot that says shift lock. That should unlock it. The solenoid is about $110. from the dealership. You can manually disable the switching mechanism inside the shifter. I used the pocket clip piece from a sharpie marker. When you open up the shifter assembly, you will see where this piece of plastic from the sharpie will go to eliminate the switch. The only downside to this procedure is that the car can be shifted out of park, at anytime, whether the car is running, or not, and whether the brake is depressed or not. If you need, I can take apart my console and take pics of the "sharpie bypass" that I did on my car. Let me know if you need the pics!
