Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone has had any similar issues. I bought this car sometime during the summer. And it was difficult to get it into gears. Eventually i got used to it but it is a pain in the butt. So my boyfriend swapped a ka24de transmission in using the ca18det bell housing. This made it a little better but still hard to put into first and sometimes second gear. It also makes a loud clunk noise when i shift it to second. And it grinds 4th sometimes. I changed the clutch slave, brand new and that didnt seem to help much. We changed the gear oil and still nothing.. i know it could be the clutch but i wanted to get some insight on it before i go out and buy one. This is driving me crazy and giving my right arm serious muscle. Girls are not cute with muscles. Anything will help! Thanks guys.

If 1) you used the same clutch during both transmissions and 2) the slave cylinder was not the problem and 3) you never tried adjusting the clutch pedal through any of this, it's possible that your clutch isn't completely disengaging when you mash the pedal down.

I'm talking about the linkage that connects your clutch pedal to the master cylinder. It has a jam nut on it (12mm) that must be loosened, then you can twist the rod itself with your fingers. In your case, you'd "unscrew" that rod out of the pedal linkage a bit (which will move the pedal closer to the driver's seat) then tighten the jam nut back.

This will make your clutch disengage even more, and if that's your problem, then this'll fix it. Hope this helps.

I vote #3, adjusting the threaded part behind the clutch pedal will give you more pedal push travel and more hydraulic pressure to disengage the clutch. Did you bleed the clutch line after changing the slave cylinder to remove all air?

hope it's not a bad master cylinder too... usually when one fails (the slave), the other fails sooner or later

it's always a good idea to replace both at the same time

Yes, we bled the clutch line many times just incase we weren't getting all the air out. But we tried the jam nut theory and it did make my clutch pedal come up higher. But still a little hard to put into gear.

Yes! We found a leak on the master cylinder. I'm going to purchase one tomorrow and replace it. I hope this works! Wish me luck guys :-)

Before installing the new MC, be sure to prime it with brake fluid so the plunger is lubricated internally.

And make sure you re-readjust the rod after you install the clutch master!

Thanks guys! It was the clutch master cylinder and the clutch disc, one of the springs came loose. =)
