Hello, please help. I would like to know what transmission options are available for my S14. I seem to have bad luck in that the one that came with my car broke, so $$ forced me to get a used S13 transmission which is in there and working, but it has bearings that are going out or something and it has a terribly loud whine in all gears except 4th. It's gonna break to. So, I'm looking to get yet another transmission and wonder what the options are. So far I'm very aware of Used (crappy but cheap), Rebuilt and Remanufactured (don't know the difference, but seem expensive and involve core and shipping), or having mine rebuilt locally (I don't like this idea much because they'll have to replace almost all of the internals anyway which may exceed the value of my car!). Is that it? Are there new trannies available? Are there race trannies out there? What about gear sets, race bearings or clutchless options? Does anyone balance and blueprint these? Check for stress failures, oversize the bearings? Maybe stock is normally good enough and I've just had the bad luck of getting crappy ill-maintained ones. I just want reliable, smooth shifting... Oh, fyi, it will bolt to my stock KA24DE and eventually a one peice driveshaft, but stock for now. Also, if used is the only way to go, what are my choices? I know S13 fits with minor mods to sensors, I read that some 300zx fit but need bellhousing swap... Thanks for the advice. Oh, I did search transmission, transmission, upgrade, aftermarket and options, but found nothing on topic.

No advanced technical advice here? I got 2.5 votes for a used transmission and .5 votes for rebuilding mine from the general discussion forum. No such thing as higher performance parts to put into the rebuild? No tricks to re-assembly that might benefit the drive? What about first gear being tough to get back into during a downshift? Is there some sort of lock device in there? Maybe leave OD sensor unplugged to eliminate top speed governer?

It will cost you but there is a bellhousing made to put a 300zx transmission on the KA if I remember correctly. Mazworx.com http://mazworx.com/store/?even...ct=60 crossmemberhttp://mazworx.com/store/?even...uct=6 bellhousing adapter

I'm not sure whether this is for the auto or manual transmission though. Give em a call.

Good luck with your build.
