I looked through the FSM and it recommends using API GL-4 oil. All i found at my local parts store is API GL-5.

What type of gear oil should i use for my 1992 Nissan 240SX w/ CA18DET? Are these two type of oils compatible?

grab some Redline MT-90 your local autoparts most likely can get it but normally dont carry it in stock. MT-90 is made specifically for everything like GL-3 and GL-4. GL-5 will eat away at your transmission synchros.

GL-5 is bad for our transmissions. The GL-5 eats up the brass on the syncros. I use Redline MT-90 and I love it. Your transmission will probably shift faster and more smoothly. Every trans I've used it in has.

Yeah, the Redline MT90 is pretty much the top pick for most owners around here. It's good stuff. I use Pennzoil Synchromesh since you can get it off the shelf at Autozone. Some people have bad experiences with it, but I haven't so far.

I'm not gonna lie but usually those peeps at the autoparts store can be the biggest idiots in the world.

just grab some MT-90. I know Advance Autoparts carries Redline products, if they dont have it they can order it for you. They dont charge shipping either so its cheaper.

It seems as if no one carrys the Redline MT-90 products. I called up NAPA and they said they can order GL-4 oil for me. Its either this or going to my local Nissan dealership. Sucks balls!

It looks like Murray's Discount Auto Stores is your nearest Parts America supplier. They carry redline products and they should be able to order MT-90 for you.

^ thats Advance Auto Parts its where I get my MT-90 from. Tell them to look it up in their computer. The first time I went to buy it at Advance Auto Parts the old dude at the counter was like WTF sorry dude but we dont carry that Brand. I showed him a bottle of Water Wetter and I was like ya you do. One of the managers came over and said yes we do carry Redline and told the guy at the counter to do a search by brand, and sure enough they carry it, just never stock it. After I placed the order it took a week for it to arrive.

I put zip code 60804 as I dont know exactly where you live so just put your zip code in their and you should be able to get Redline MT-90.

Thanks for the info! I went to two Murrays and got the same thing you got when you told them about the product. Some of the people there SHOULD NOT be working there but whatever. For some dumbasss reason they werent able to order it for me. I called up NAPA and they DO carry API GL-4 trans oil. Im going to get it from them. I cant believe its this damn fcuking hard to find the correct transmission oil.

Oh get this. I called up my local Nissan dealership and i asked and told them the same. I need API GL-4 manual trans oil. There response was that they only carry it in big asss barrels!!! WTF?!?! What about all the Nissans out there that use this type of oil?! They couldnt get me quarts or gallons!!! WTF?!? I dont know what the hell is wrong but i think NAPA is going to be my only hope if i want to get this damn oil! Im going to try searching for a dealer online next.
