Thanks all for the info. I already had the transmission fluid draining overnight in the driveway, so I will have to do the flush next time. I did replace the gasket, filter/strainer and o-ring. I managed to get 7 1/2 quarts out and replaced with Mobil 1 ATF. Given my car has 140,000 miles and the last time the transmisssion fluid was changed was at 75,000 miles I was expecting to find some nasty stuff in the pan, but it was incredibly clean.
I was thinking it shouldn't be too tough to construct one's own flush machine. 1 five gallon bucket with tight fitting lid, 2 bladders, some hoses and a bypass valve. Drill some holes in bucket for hoses, fill one bladder with new fluid, place both bladders in bucket, fill bucket with water to remove any remaining air and secure lid. Now simply hook into transmission cooler line with bypass valve, start engine and switch valve when ready. The old fluid will flow into the second bladder and push an equal amount of new fluid out and back into the system. I'm probably missing something, but with a home built flush machine and a good source to buy Mobil 1 ATF in bulk we could get the cost for a flush down under $50
